Biography

I think I've always been interested in looking at the world in many different ways, working with my senses, crafting something new or finding a new vision and sharing it with people around me. In high school I learned to sew and throughout university produced much of the clothes I wore. Some great, some not so great, but I learned the techniques required to craft a three dimensional object out of a two-dimensional surface.

While at university for my Geography degree, I started to see the universe in a different way. Started to see the way man's use of the planet impacts our views of our world. Started to see how to read the landscape, learning about glaciation and volcanism and forestry and climate and folding and faulting and other landscape changing events in the world.

So, I decided to take a photography course to see if there was a way to capture what I saw in my mind but wasn’t always able to capture in my photos. I started my learning working with a fully manual camera taking black and white photos to get a sense of light and shade, composition and perspective. I received lots of great advice and started to produce some beautiful work and then shifted to using colour. I noticed that I had a unique view of the world, coloured by both my need to see 3D in a 2D medium, my understanding of the amazing forces of nature in changing our world's landscape and my newfound vision of light and dark, richness and depth of field.

My art is a blend of my experiences, my unique perspective of life and light and the vibrancy of the world we live in. I recently started to get my art reproduced on 11” by 11” canvas squares. The lightweight, stretched canvas frames, ready to hang, are a perfect way to make my art accessible to all. I saw photos printed on canvas several years ago and found it enlivened the subject matter, giving it even more depth and vibrancy. I was delighted to find the technique created by a fellow artist friend, Christopher Bailey and his Bailey 11’s program, and now I am able to present my art to the world in a new and unique way.

Through my artwork, some viewers will see a new view of the world. Some of the views are those you would pass by every day and step over or walk past unaware of the richness in information available in the world around you. Others will recognize the views as representative of incredible majesty and magnificence of this planet we inhabit. I have been blessed with friends and family who give me new views of the world and thank all of them for helping to enrich my life and my artwork.

I hope you like my unique view and composition and changing art styles that are intrinsically a part of me.

The main thing I want to share is enjoyment of life and a new view and recognition of the world around us.

Enjoy Life!

Sharon
